From Northern Gas Gala:

In the last 10 days, a protest camp has been set up on the side of the road leading to a site where a company ‘IGas’ were recently granted a permit to do ‘exploratory drilling’ for the next 3 months. This is the first stage to see if the geology is suitable for coal bed methane extraction and / or fracking – both dodgy and dangerous fossil fuel processes.

http://frackfreegtrmanchester.org.uk/

It’s really good to go down to the Camp to support if you can. Our time and effort can help take the pressure off those already there – allowing more people to sustain their activism, their outreach, their blockades, etc.

The police have upped their presence significantly over the last 48 hours and the Drilling Rig is set to arrive imminently. There’s about 30 people there at the moment with lots of support from the local community. The land in question is owned by Peel Holdings.

The fracking industry got a bloody nose from the protests at Balcombe in Sussex this summer. All eyes are now on Salford to see how much resistance IGas meet – which gives the site a national significance in the wider debate about corporate control of our energy system, fuel poverty, the dash for gas, climate change (and capital’s continual need to overcome environmental limits).

Here’s some ways you could help:

1) Volunteer to cook, or help cook, a hot meal for everyone in the kitchen at the camp.

2) Sort out some 12 volt batteries and lights for the communal structures.

3) Donate some tarps.

4) Bring down some firewood or go wooding nearby.

5) Tweet all about it.

6) Get involved in the community organising in the nearby area. Baking cakes for the next community meeting on Friday, or driving stuff over to the area, taking minutes, door knocking (shout me off list for more info on this).

For Normal Privacy Please Encrypt Your Data

When we stand at a cash machine or at the reception desk of the doctors surgery, we expect people to keep their distance. When we work on our laptops, text our friends or read a book in a public place – we don’t want people to lean over our shoulders. When we sit and talk in a café or on the train, we feel uncomfortable when someone appears to be listening too intently. In the physical world we expect normal, every-day privacy… so why do those same rules not apply on-line?

If you would like to learn how to ensure normal, every-day privacy when using your computer, tablet or mobile phone, then come to CryptoParty-Mcr. You can learn simple and effective ways to encrypt your emails and chat, and how to browse the internet anonymously. By using encyrption, you will protect your privacy, and help to protect the privacy of others, including political and environmental activists from all around the world.

Sunday 8th December

ACA are happy to present an afternoon of modern anti-fascist films depicting both the struggle against fascism and tributes to fallen comrades. It will be held at Moston Miners Community Centre from 15:30 onwards.

Films that we will be showing :

Carlos (Dos anos sin ti, dos anos contigo) – Carlos (2 years without you, two years with you) – (Spain)

A film made by Madrid anti-fascists a year after Carlos was murdered by Neo-nazis, showing both how the struggle and fight against fascism has continued and how they were fighting for justice. Here is a small clip from the film … http://theplatform.nuevaradio.org/video/antifascismoantirracismo/limg_src_http_theplatform_nuevaradio_org_2637/

161 > 88 (Czech Republic)

This movie was made by antifascists who have already chosen their attitude to the topic. We won’t persuade you that the movie is ”objective” in the usual sense. But we see its value in something else – the fact that we have been an active part of the events and that we were effectively shaping them. The movie of the Antifascist Action (AFA) monitors more than twenty years of the struggle against neo-Nazis, fascists and racists. The historic cross-section shows the multiple rises and falls of neo-Nazis and racists. You will witness the power as well as limited potential of the antifascist movement that doesn’t deal just with neo-Nazis, but also with the repression of the state and the public opinion. Small clip here … http://vimeo.com/64937723

ANTIFA – Chasseurs de skins (France)

Members of the Red Warriors, an antifascist gang in France, 1985. Red Warriors used violent force to remove Neo Nazi gangs from France and provide safe spaces for immigrants during the rise of white nationalism and an outbreak of violent crime against people of colour. They formed a squat called “L.U.S.I.N.E” and were considered the most effect gang to counter nazi violence, working to instill fear in their opposition. Clip here … http://antifascistarchive.com/2012/03/29/antifa-chasseurs-de-skins-2008/

£4 entrance, all money will be going towards antifascism in Manchester.

Hope you can make it.

Thanks.

Sunday 22nd December

It’s simple: We are looking for as many family and friends as possible to go to charity shops, get a rucksack, sleeping bag, flask (fill with hot soup), spoon, gloves, hat, fleece, warm tracksuit bottoms, undies, socks and extra food, bar of soap, toothbrush and tooth paste. If you put extra tins of food in, please make sure they have ring pulls. Do NOT put knives, forks, paracetamol or medications in the rucksacks.

Then meet up on Sunday 22nd December, 12 midday, to give to the homeless.
